TUTORIAL: Create an Easy stained look with Luxe Tones!

Guest post by: Maddie of Brushed By Maddie

I want to thank my friends over at TCB for providing me with all the products needed to complete this piece!

This buffet was a Letgo score for $50, it was in perfect shape except for the old and dark stain finish.

STEP 1 - Prep

I started out giving my piece a good cleaning using my favorite cleaning product (Krud kutter). I was going for a stain top and drawer, so I sanded the top and drawer to the bare wood, and scuff sanded the rest of the piece. Clean the sanding dust with a damp rag.

STEP 2 - Start painting!

Now you're ready to start painting. I used the most beautiful grayish color called Putty. I did 3 coats of paint on my piece using a good quality brush. (This paint has amazing coverage and self leveling properties, so you can use any type of brush).

After my paint was dry, it was time for me to stain the top and the drawer. I used Luxe Tones in the color Driftwood, using a foam brush, I applied 2 coats waiting 2 hours in between coats. (This stuff is amazing and time-saver, it has a built-in top coat).

STEP 3 & 4 - Seal and glaze.

This piece happened to be made out of Mahogany, so that's why it has that reddish tone to it.

I seal the rest of the piece using the Ultra Tough Top Coat in Satin (2 coats). After my topcoat was dry it was time to apply the glaze, to give the piece that antique worn look I was going for. I used Van Dyke Brown glaze

I applied the glaze using a little detail brush on all the details of the piece. I let it set for a minute and then wiped it off with a damp rag. How much you remove is totally up to your liking.

STEP 5 - Add hardware.

Last but not least, I put the original hardware back on. I cleaned the hardware with Bar keeper's friend. I really love how this piece turned out, you can recreate this look using The Chippy Barn's amazing products.
